Sub 60/65 loses prestige? Also, our attempt at HYROX Regional Rankings (America, EMEA, APAC)
Welcome to The Extra Lap! Each week, we’ll be sharing HYROX insights and analysis, product updates, stories, community shoutouts and much more.
Stat of The Week
Last week at HYROX Stuttgart, there were 24 sub 60 finishers in men’s pro and 9 sub 65 finishers in women’s pro.
Just three years ago, there were 29 sub 60 finishers in men’s pro and 12 sub 65 finishers in women’s pro for the entire HYROX season.
Absolutely wild.
Regional Rankings
Wow, did we stumble on a major athlete pain point yesterday! (evidenced by the overwhelming response on IG)
In case you missed it, a few months back, HYROX announced the debut of Regional Championships (Americas, EMEA, and APAC) as a replacement for the Elite 15 Last Chance Qualifier.
12 spots will be claimed through the four HYROX Majors and the final 3 will go to each winner of the regionals.
While some details are still unclear, it sounds like these Regionals will get the Major treatment in terms of live production and a grid course. We would love this as it extends more opportunities for athlete exposure and sponsors.
To be eligible for a regional, an athlete must have a passport for that region. It appears the top 15 will be based on the same Elite 15 qualification system (average of top 2 times in a rolling 1 year period).
We believe Elite 15 athletes qualified for Worlds through Majors will not be allowed to race.
We noticed there are no available rankings to track eligibility like there are for the Majors on the HYROX website (top 40 global only).
The passport element certainly adds some challenges.
However, James Kelly reached out and asked if we could put something together, at least to estimate where people stand.
So we did — a top 50 by region and gender as of November 7th, 2025.
Here is how we approached it:
- We don’t have passport information so as a best guess, we mapped every nationality from race registration data to each of the three regions.
- Some athletes had multiple nationality registrations (e.g. Camilla Massa - Italy and United States). In those cases, we forced one to prevent duplicates.
- We applied the Elite 15 qualification approach (average of two fastest times in past 365 days)
- There were some athletes with only 1 pro race (e.g. Megan Jacoby) but we kept them in the rankings so everyone can see the full population of athletes in the mix.
- We kept Elite 15 athletes who have already qualified (e.g. Dylan Scott) just for visibility but they would not be racing.
Caveats
- This is not official, just a “better-than-nothing” free solution.
- We don’t know what athletes will do who are eligible in multiple regions.
- The purpose is just to help everyone estimate where they stand until HYROX provides visibility.
We will look to put together a doubles version too and will periodically update until HYROX debuts their official tracker.

RoxOpt Origin Story - Entry #4
I left HYROX Barcelona in March 2023, with my first use-case for RoxOpt:
Apply machine learning and simulation techniques to generate personalized next race HYROX predictions (both overall and individual stations) to help establish realistic performance goals race-to-race.
I got to work and it became pretty clear that my sub 70 Barcelona goal was a bit crazy. It became clear with my prototype model that sub 75 was a much better goal to focus on first.
I was starting to see how this could help others set micro goals while progressing towards a long-term goal.
With a decent prototype for predicting race performance, I knew I needed to bring in an expert for feedback. Also, I knew I wanted to build so much more and needed to start talking to athletes.
At the time (June 2023), my wife and I knew nobody that did HYROX. However, back then, it was impossible to Google “HYROX” and not see “Rich Ryan” everywhere (still is the case) but he was the ultimate content OG back then.
I saw this specific video and figured “Wow, he’s an elite athlete and clearly appreciates data. If there is anyone to talk to, this seems like the guy!”
(side note, pretty cool to see how far his YouTube content has come!)
I sent Rich a cold email, mentioning I was starting to build a HYROX analytics performance product and wanted to pick his brain on how he trains, coaches, and strategizes so I could identify pain points that could be solved with data.
The next day, he responded “You are speaking my language! Sure I can find some time.”
